Staff Attorney The candidate will conduct legal and factual research and prepare motions, briefs, comments, and all other administrative filings in proceedings, litigation, and appeals. Will act as lead and support attorney on administrative proceedings before the CA Public Utilities Commission – litigate cases from beginning to end, including all aspects of administrative proceedings including: participating in hearings, examining witnesses, working with experts and writing briefs and comments. Implement legal advocacy strategies to support firm's goals. Communicate with the news media and develop relationships with reporters. Coordinate with outside counsel and affinity organizations, including San Diego grassroots organizations. Represent firm's as an expert on California energy regulation in the community, in public participation processes, before decision-makers, and with affinity organizations. Assist in preparation of reports and studies on energy and environmental issues.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should be Member of the California State Bar. Must have 3+ years of litigation, appellate, and administrative advocacy or other relevant experience post law school. Must have commitment to public interest law. Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills is required. Must have education and/or experience in public interest environmental law, energy law, litigation, appellate law, and administrative advocacy. Excellent oral communication skills including ability to cross examine witnesses and to speak on behalf of firm's in legal proceedings and in the community is required. Experience in advocacy or grassroots activism in the San Diego area highly desired.
