Paralegal II - Collections The candidate collaborates with C&E/Audit regarding delinquencies, reviews and analyzes monthly delinquency reports,s and identifies delinquencies. Collects delinquent audit and billing amounts. Obtains employer compliance with payroll audits and obtains the necessary documentation. Researches and resolves audit disputes. Analyzes delinquencies to be settled and conducts any necessary research regarding existing delinquencies, including review of payroll audits. Calculates any delinquency and/or settlement figures. Develops acceptable settlement criteria. Negotiates optimal settlement for the Fund. Drafts settlement agreements. Drafts settlement recommendations to Sr. Legal Counsel, Fund CEO, and Collections / Subrogation Committee. Follows up on payment plans and settlements. Closing of approved settlements and collection of proceeds. Assists Senior Legal Counsel as requested. Prepares matters for referral to Outside Counsel and conducts the necessary research. Collaborates with Outside Counsel to assure steady progress of cases to be settled, schedules and attends conference calls regarding the status of all cases referred to Outside Counsel. Provides litigation support, including fact-finding, preparation and/or review of affidavits, responses to interrogatories and other legal correspondence, and review of settlement agreements. Develops strategy and assists in resolving various projects of collection issues. Assists with Quarterly Trustee Report and prepares other reports as requested. Sets goals and achieve measurable results. Contributes ideas to plans and achieves department goals. Qualification and ExperienceThe candidate must have an Associate's degree in the legal field or related field or equivalent work experience. Certification in Paralegal studies is preferred. Must have 1-2 years of related litigation or collections experience. Should have experience with a contribution accounting system (Vitech preferred). Working knowledge and experience in accounting, collections, or auditing are preferred. Working knowledge and experience in resolving delinquencies and audit dispute through arbitration, mediation or litigation is preferred. Working knowledge and experience with multiemployer / ERISA group health plans are preferred. Working knowledge and experience with HIPAA are preferred. Should have intermediate level Microsoft Office skills in programs such as PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook and intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills. Should have preferred bi or multi-lingual skills and strong communication skills both written and verbal. Should also have strong analytical and organizational skills and be detail-oriented and have multi-tasking skills. Should have the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues and the ability to mentor and counsel teammates and other departments in collections, audit, and problem-solving.
