Assistant Attorney General, Asset Forfeiture Program
The candidate will be resposible for obtaining guidance and approval on the handling of assigned cases from OAG management. The position will maintain regular, accurate and complete reporting to the OAG on the status of asset forfeiture cases. Research and draft pleadings and documents to be utilized in criminal proceedings to include, but not limited to: complaints, pre-trial motions, jury instructions, etc. Research, interpret and apply statutes, court decisions, or other legal authority on points of law. Interview clients and witnesses. Conduct legal research and writing. Conduct depositions and other forms of discovery. Conduct negotiations. Prepare for and participate in hearings and trials (with and without a jury). Perform all other legal functions necessary to case development. Overall case management. Travel to Topeka for meetings with OAG staff members and travel to litigate cases. Additional duties may be added at any time.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should be a Graduate of an accredited law school. Certificate of admission and membership in good standing with the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas. Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas and admission to (or eligible for admission to) the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. A valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State. Jury trial experience. Knowledge of asset forfeiture procedure. Excellent writing, research and communication skills. Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat. Will be subject to a pre-employment screening process to include a fingerprint and name-based criminal history records check and reference/background check of past and present employers. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, strong work ethic and superb team building ethos are required.
