Policy And Advocacy Counsel Duties: Assisting in creating advocacy campaigns integrating litigation, organizing, public education, policy advocacy, and strategic communications. Developing and maintaining relationships with community partners, organizers, coalition members, and legal allies. Educating elected officials, their staff, and policymakers on injustice in the American Criminal system and proposed solutions. Tracking and analyzing legislation and administrative proposals before federal, state, and local bodies. Representing Corps in the media, at conferences, and at other venues. Assisting with Corps’ organizational development and planning.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree is preferred. 3+ years’ relevant professional experience. Innovative thinking, an unwillingness to accept things as they are, and a strong work ethic are essential. Demonstrated commitment to the mission, purpose, and values. Experience creating and implementing new campaigns and programs. Demonstrated success and comfort facilitating community meetings and group discussions. Enthusiasm and expertise for political education and building collective community consciousness. Ideally, experience in community organizing. Strong working knowledge of the American criminal legal system and prior work in racial and economic justice. Track record as a collaborative leader who excels in managing multiple projects. Experience managing relationships with multiple stakeholders including partners, community members, and policy influencers. Excellent communication and public speaking skills; excellent writing skills. Experience working with diverse populations and on behalf of low-income clients. Proven ability to take initiative, establish priorities, work independently, self-motivate, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
