Senior Paralegal Duties: Review investigative reports, testimonies, interviews, files, and documents for a variety of criminal cases to become familiar with the issues and identify pertinent material. Reads and analyzes reports of investigating agencies and sorts through and reads subpoenaed documents and identifies and summarizes portions that may be relevant to particular cases. Establishes and maintains an effective system of compiling, indexing, and organizing this information and its sources. Participates and assists in preparation for trial by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits. Marks and identifies trial exhibits and drafts a list of exhibits to be offered at trial. Contractor will prepare narrative summaries, charts, tables, graphs, or other visual aids to be used at trial. Range of paralegal tasks include, but are not limited to copying, mailing, closing files, maintaining pleadings. The candidate will be asked to assist with other administrative tasks as the sole support person in the branch office. Reviews and analyzes the financial and management operations of a variety of commercial, Industrial, financial and other large, complex corporate organizations. Develops a financial profile of the organization to compile repmis and findings. Demonstrates familiarity with applicable federal, state or local laws to the extent necessary to make sound decisions on direction and scope of the analysis and carries out the mission based on DOJ and USAO policy and long-term objectives, such as the identification of sophisticated transactions, or partial and/or inadequate records. Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Requires paralegal certificate, or JD Degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed 1+ year of study. Only the Contracting Officer can approve a waiver of the education requirements. 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful. 1+ year of experience in automated litigation support. Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
