Paralegal
Duties: Work with the firm’s personal injury division on litigation and pre-litigation cases; however, the firm also handles state and federal court cases involving class actions, antitrust, securities, copyright, and complex business litigation, so there will be some intermittent work in those areas as well. Responding to calls and emails from clients, class members, and class representatives. Taking calls from potential clients, obtaining all necessary information, and assisting with initial client in-person or phone interviews. Preparing high-quality, substantive initial drafts of correspondence, pleadings, written discovery responses and requests, and other legal documents. Proofreading. Electronic filing (federal court via cm/ecf, NCIC when needed, etc.). Calendaring hearings and deadlines. Organizing and reviewing case files and client documents. Preparing attorney binders, exhibits, etc. for hearings, depositions, and trial. Coordinating with vendors to have large volumes of documents picked up, scanned, and processed. Uploading documents to an online document management platform. Occasional assistance with internal and external community and/or marketing events. Creating, updating, and/or managing class action spreadsheets with client and case-related data. Utilizing case management software and managing tasks effectively and efficiently. Ordering medical records & bills; following up on outstanding records & bills; organizing and summarizing records & bills. Interviewing and corresponding with medical and legal experts. Assisting at personal injury trials. Preparing demand packages. Assembling costs, lien, and balance information during negotiations and calculating settlement numbers. Assisting with other legal and administrative tasks as needed.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Notary is preferred. 3+ years of experience in the personal injury or civil litigation field required; paralegal certificate preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, and Excel; ability to create and manipulate columns and utilize formulas in Excel. Proficient typing skills. Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred). Strong, professional written and verbal communication skills. Good work ethic, analytical, open-minded, eager and willing to learn, conscientious, pays attention to detail, open to receiving feedback, takes initiative. Experience with an online document management system such as Everlaw, Concordance, Relativity, etc. (preferred). Experience with calculating and calendaring deadlines. Experience with a case management system such as Needles, Prolaw, Practice Panther, etc. Ability to work well under stress, think “outside the box”, be adaptable and flexible, and be empathetic.
