Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Legal Counsel The candidate will monitor legislative and administrative activities in key issue areas and circulate periodic updates, participate in panel discussions, and conduct internal and external presentations to keep business units and clients informed and engaged in the regulatory and legislative process. As a member of the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs (LRA) team, will also work with internal subject matter experts and other LRA team members to develop positions on and responses to anticipated legislative and regulatory actions and represent the company on legislative and regulatory issues, serving as a liaison in advocating positions for the company. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments globally, including attending hearings, briefings and meetings and preparing summaries of legislative, regulatory, political and other policy developments of interest to the company. Provide guidance to business units on industry issues, relationship building and legislative and regulatory developments. In conjunction with other LRA team members and department subject matter experts, influencing regulators, legislators, trade groups, and industry peers through comment letters or in-person dialogue. Assist the LRA team in identifying and implementing innovative solutions to challenging legislative and political issues. Support business units in engagement with external clients through meetings or thought leadership pieces.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Law degree from accredited school of law. Must have 5 years of related work experience. Should have experience in asset management or financial services policy or regulation, through in-house experience and/or relevant work with trade associations, government agencies, elected officials, law firms or lobbying firms. Must have a thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory processes in the policy venues important to the company. Should be able to identify relevant policy developments and understand their potential importance to the company. Must be able to recommend positions on issues and suggest changes in strategies as legislative and regulatory processes unfold. Should have acute political and public perception. Must have excellent conflict management skills.
