A law firm is seeking a highly motivated Mid-Level Personal and Succession Planning Associate Attorney to join its team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estate planning, business succession planning, and charitable giving strategies, with a focus on high- and ultra-high-net-worth families. Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive estate planning services for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families.
  • Advise clients on forming and managing private trust companies and family offices.
  • Develop and implement business succession plans for family-owned businesses.
  • Create and manage charitable giving strategies, including establishing and administrating private foundations.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to estate planning, trusts, wills, and business succession.
  • Collaborate with clients' financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to ensure cohesive planning.
  • Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations affecting estate planning and succession.
  • Represent clients in negotiations and legal proceedings as necessary.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and support staff, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in estate planning, private trust companies, family offices, business succession planning, or charitable giving strategies.
  • Strong academic credentials and professional work experience.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to client service and ability to develop lasting client relationships.
  • Desire to grow as a leader within the firm and the estate planning community.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • An . in Taxation is a plus.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligible for admission by reciprocity.

Skills:

  • Expertise in estate planning for high and ultra-high-net-worth families.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing private trust companies and family offices.
  • Strong knowledge of business succession planning strategies.
  • Experience with charitable giving strategies and private foundations.
  • Excellent legal drafting and document review skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with a team.
