Attorney Responsibilities: Enable AI and Mixed Reality businesses to grow. Provides frontline support for computer vision, speech and language and mixed reality teams who are building innovative new tools, services and platform capabilities that support a new generation of first and third party PaaS and SaaS experiences. Will help ensure that new AI and MR offerings are built in an ethical and legally compliant way, and that our first-party AI and machine learning efforts are done in ways that respect user privacy. Help grow new device categories. Provide top notch legal advice. Partner with engineers during the product lifecycle: White boarding with engineers about how an algorithm works to ensure addressing legal risks regarding data usage, collaborating with business and finance teams to ensure new business models are accurately developed and described in contracts, evaluating data use scenarios to ensure they are legally compliant, and working on guidance to help products comply with complex industry-specific regulations. Will expose to a wide range of internal experts on issues such as engineering and product development, privacy, security, compliance, marketing, ethics, public relations, finance, business development, product management and other legal colleagues.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Undergraduate engineering degree. A JD Degree or similar degree in law. Must be licensed to practice or have a Bar membership in any state within the US. 3+ years’ experience with at least one of the following: intellectual property (e.g., copyright), privacy issues (e.g., data usage, GDPR), tech transactions (e.g., IP licenses), and/or complex commercial agreements (e.g., partnerships or distribution agreements). Having experience in some of the following areas will be valuable: product counseling, legal risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, policy support, and/or related issues. Prior legal and non-legal experiences will bring to this role. Prior work in-house or as outside counsel to enterprise online services is a bonus. Prior work in a start up business environment, working with complex technologies especially mixed reality and artificial intelligence, or supporting the development and launch of cloud technologies is a major plus. Strong communication & interpersonal skills. Proven communication excellence with ability to provide clear, correct and concise written and oral advice in a business context is a must for this position. Will be asked to establish trusted-advisor relationships with business leaders in key positions of responsibility, and to work effectively and collegially with legal department teammates and all business support functions. Decision making in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment. Requires skills and capabilities to engage effectively with many internal stakeholders across a diversity of disciplines and areas of expertise. Must have a strong desire to navigate through ambiguity, assess and mitigate risk, adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and, most importantly, the ability and willingness to make tough and sound decisions promptly.
