Assistant US Attorney - Civil Immigration The candidate will serve in the Civil Division handling defensive cases with a focus on immigration matters. Will coordinate the District's high volume immigration practice including representing the US, its agencies and employees in responses to habeas petitions, mandamus petitions, complaints under the Administrative Procedures Act, class action litigation, and other immigration related matters. Handle all aspects of the litigation, including discovery, motion practice, arguments, alternative dispute resolution, pretrial matters, trials and appeals. While the position is primarily dedicated to handling immigration related litigation in federal court, may also handle, among other matters, non-immigration related defensive litigation, state and municipal court matters, affirmative cases involving the False Claims Act, civil rights enforcement actions, and collection actions. Serve as effective and dedicated advocate for the government's interests, timely and efficiently pursue the just resolution of their assigned cases, and make sound and legally supportable decisions toward those ends. Have foresight and organizational and legal skills needed to manage a large and diverse caseload that involves lengthy and difficult litigation. Identify the relevant legal and factual issues in assigned cases, and to develop and implement effective strategies for all proceedings in those cases, including motions practice, discovery, alternative dispute resolution, trial, and appeal. Work well with their colleagues, supervisors, support staff, and other participants in litigation such as court personnel, opposing counsel and parties, agency counsel, and witnesses. Must have a J.D. degree and be an active member of at least one Bar (any jurisdiction), and have 1+ year of post J.D. legal experience. Application Deadline: June 29, 2019.
