ProfileStaff Attorney The candidate will work on preparing and litigating post-conviction relief for individuals facing deportation proceedings, as well as providing research and evaluation of criminal issues in removal defense cases. Prepare and litigate post -conviction relief petitions and motions in California criminal courts. Provide research and analysis of criminal immigration issues relevant to firmâ€™s removal defense cases. Stay up to date on rapidly changing criminal and immigration laws and policies as they relate to criminal immigration issues. Comply with data and program reporting requirements. Participate in advocacy and policy work related to criminal immigration issues. Must have Juris Doctorate degree and active California State Bar License. Criminal defense or prosecution practice experience is preferred. Post- conviction and/or appellate advocacy is desired. Experience working with detained immigrants or other incarcerated populations is helpful. Experience with removal defense is a plus. Spanish language proficiency is an asset. Experience working in a high volume, social-justice law firm is preferred. Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills are required.
