Managing Attorney The candidate will supervise attorneys and other staff members to ensure the Centers remain a national model for service delivery. Will ensure adequate staffing coverage for the four Self-Help Centers to allow them to serve self-represented litigants. Planning, coordination and oversight of staff meetings. Participation on court and statewide committees that deal with self help delivery models. Organize and implement educational and form completion workshops for self-represented persons in cases involving landlord tenant law, family law and civil restraining orders. Coordinate the drafting and updating of self help materials to ensure accuracy and clarity. Work closely and in coordination with court personnel, JusticeCorps staff, community partners. Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles, and staff of other Self Help Centers. In conjunction with the firm Pro Bono Director recruit, train and supervise volunteer attorneys, law students, JusticeCorps students, and community volunteers. Assist firm’s Development staff with grant writing and reports. Responsible for ensuring that the Centers meet their grant deliverables and goals. Developing efficient systems and protocols and ensuring that these policies are implemented consistently throughout all the Self-Help Centers.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Must have active membership in the California State Bar. Should have 5+ years experience in the practice of law, including demonstrated experience and competence in advocacy, civil litigation and other lawyering skills. Demonstrated practical experience with court forms and filing procedures are needed. Demonstrated knowledge of landlord tenant and/or family law is required. Ability to work cooperatively and partner with court judicial officers and administration, local bar associations, law schools, law libraries and other legal services program is needed. Ability to travel to the four Self-Help Centers located in Los Angeles Count is needed.
