Profile

Managing Attorney
Duties: Supervise staff attorneys and law interns; oversee hiring. Provide consultation, technical assistance and support to staff and volunteers regarding representation of child-clients; oversee court appearances and coverage for all clients. Oversee Child Advocates appellate and amicus practice; write/review briefs. Collaborate with leadership team for intake, case assignment, and monitoring of Volunteer Attorney adherence to standards of practice; and overall management of agency. Conduct interviews, employee performance reviews, training and new-hire orientation. Train legal and social work staff, volunteer attorneys, and outside agencies. Maintain awareness of significant legal and policy issues related to children and youth. Lead/participate in policy and system-reform initiatives, court initiatives, inter-agency meetings, legislative information sessions, Philadelphia Bar Association committees and activities. Support/present volunteer attorney recruitment and training, including Child Advocacy Practice Groups; develop/review content for trainings. Support agency communications efforts and social media on legal and policy issues. Support Board of Directors in leadership and governance activities. Support executive director in overall management of the agency; other management duties in policy-level and day-to-day operation of Child Advocates.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, eligible by reciprocity, or willingness to take PA Bar. 5+ years of experience representing children. Key elements include: commitment to racial justice and social equity; familiarity with child welfare law and practice, knowledge of the PA Juvenile Act, Child Protective Services Law and Adoptions Act; knowledge of community services; experience with teaching/training. Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills, supervisory and pro bono experience required.
