Corporate Counsel - UK Regulatory
Duties: Focus efforts in supporting lending business and are expected to have (or to develop) an in-depth understanding of international consumer finance laws. Handle all aspects of legal compliance with applicable United Kingdom laws and regulations associated with consumer lending. Interpret existing and new laws and regulations and provide guidance to the business. Counsel business partners on legal and compliance risks and collaborate to find optimal business solution while minimizing risk. Work closely with business and technology teams to implement legal/regulatory changes. Analyze regulator actions and enforcement decisions in the industry and advise the business on solutions to mitigate future risk. Advise and assist both legal and business partners about various legal issues affecting vendor agreements and other business transactions. Manage litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters, as necessary to accomplish legal and compliance objectives.

Qualification and Experience

A JD Degree from an accredited law school and admittance in good standing with at least one state Bar. 5-9 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or as in-house counsel. The ability to analyze international law and provide detailed recommendations to business partners. Sound judgment, critical thinking and solid negotiation skills. The capability to analyze problems and take a solutions-oriented approach. The ability to engage individuals and teams to ensure timely project completion. Experience in consumer financial services, or working at an e-commerce company is a plus; interest in developing an in-depth understanding of consumer financial services and the industry. Knowledge and experience with UK regulations (CONC, DISP, SUP, SYSC, GDPR, etc.) is a plus. The capability and flexibility to develop new areas of expertise and the confidence to quickly learn and develop independence in key practice areas. The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and balance a heavy workload. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate concisely and effectively. Experience working directly with business partners is a plus. Dynamic, self-motivated, able to work both independently and with a team.
