A law firm in Saint Louis, MO, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Patent Agent with a background in electrical engineering or biotechnology. The successful candidate will support patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, collaborate with inventors on innovative technologies, and manage the patent application process. This role demands technical expertise, strong research skills, and the ability to navigate complex patent procedures effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patent attorneys in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications, ensuring all legal and procedural requirements are met.
- Collaborate directly with inventors to understand and document new technologies and inventions.
- Identify potential patentable inventions by analyzing current technologies and existing patents.
- Conduct research on current patented technologies and assess the patentability of new innovations.
- Draft detailed patent applications, including descriptions and claims, in collaboration with the patent team.
- Monitor the progress of patent applications from initial submission through to grant, ensuring adherence to timelines and procedural requirements.
- Perform patentability searches and analyze prior art to support the patent application process.
- Address and resolve client challenges related to patent matters, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Prepare responses to office actions and communicate with the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as needed.
- Consistently meet billable hour targets and contribute to the firm's overall productivity.
Requirements:
- 1+ years of professional experience in patent law, with a preference for 2+ years.
- Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology, with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in a related field.
- USPTO Registration is required.
- Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patentability searches, and responding to office actions.
- Strong understanding of patent law and USPTO procedures.
