Licensing Manager Duties: Plan and execute all internal and external activities leading to alliances with the public and the private sectors, with an emphasis on Ag biotech traits and/or germplasm exchanges. Coordinate alliance-related work streams with colleagues in R&D, biotech affairs, regulatory, supply management, sales and marketing. Work with Pioneer finance managers and attorneys to achieve financial and legal clearances. The incumbent will be skilled in the art of defining and validating terms leading to successful alliances and be capable of negotiating agreements, from term sheet to executed contract. Will coordinate clearance and approval for release of biological and other materials (working with product clearance managers as appropriate), and be capable of supervising staff responsible for handling Product Transfer and Evaluation Agreements and germplasm and technology transfers, globally. Administer and monitor agreement compliance including but not limited to (i) database entries, (ii) payment obligations, reports due, exercising of options, etc. Develop and maintain strong knowledge of important agreements and their impact on new negotiations. Maintain relationships with contacts in Pioneer, in DuPont, and in the public and private sectors to determine shifting structures, roles and goals within the industry. Provide guidance/training to Pioneer-internal customers with respect to Technology Transfer and Licensing processes.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelorâ€™s degree in biological sciences or business administration, required - Masterâ€™s degree (in biological sciences or business administration) or Law degree, preferred. 4-6 years of experience working in an academic institutionâ€™s licensing group or a comparable corporate setting. Exposure to or experience with (i) negotiations, (ii) intellectual property rights, (iii) patents and (iv) contract and licensing issues is preferred. Understanding of intellectual property management, field research and regulatory activities, preferred. Basic knowledge in plant biotechnology, breeding and trait integration. Confidence and ability to work through challenging issues in a timely and professional manner. Experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines at the same time, with strict attention to detail and prioritization. Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills, required. Proven ability to build solid relationships, earn the confidence of internal stakeholders and demonstrate the ability to get results. Strong organizational and project management skills are required. Certification as a Licensing Professional, or commitment to obtain certification over an agreed upon period of time. Must be reliable, self-motivated, persistent and have the ability to work effectively both alone and in teams. Supervisory/management experience is preferred .
