Global Chief Competition Counsel Responsibilities: Leading and continuously improving the global competition/antitrust law compliance program to ensure effectiveness of ongoing risk assessments, policies, training, and communications and monitoring of all applicable competition laws and regulations. Maintaining and periodically enhancing competition policies and processes to adapt to changing risk environment and employee needs. Partnering with legal and regional competition champions to integrate global program with regional and local business needs, including adapting and tailoring program to fit risk profiles. Overseeing and supporting ongoing regional risk assessments, to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, government and regulatory bodies; and being a thought-partner to stakeholders (e.g., including competition champions, regional GCs, and business leaders) to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and practices. Strengthening legal teams’ capabilities and awareness on the intersection between competition law and business activities. Monitoring legal and regulatory changes that impact the company’s business across the globe. Spearheading and leading critical internal investigations or competition matters in close coordination with the legal, regional compliance, and business teams. Measuring program effectiveness through program inputs and feedback, and adapting program appropriately to address opportunities, including developing and maintaining tools and resources. Partnering with the business and legal teams in providing counsel and proactive strategic guidance on business specific matters, including M&A and business development opportunities, private claims etc. Interfacing with regulators and other stakeholders, including on advocacy matters. Creating, analyzing, and driving continuous improvements based on evaluating results from KPIs, audits, or surveys in collaboration with the regional compliance team and other relevant stakeholders. Providing regular updates on the status and effectiveness of the compliance program key risks and mitigation activities to legal and business leaders.
Qualification and ExperienceQualifications: JD Degree or equivalent who is admitted to practice law in the US 7+ years’ experience working as a competition/antitrust practitioner at a law firm, antitrust agency or for a multi-national company. It is likely that the successful candidate has a combination of experience at both a large law firm and a large U.S.-based multinational corporation. Strong understanding of U.S. competition laws with experience and knowledge of interplay between U.S. and global competition laws and their application to the business; specific application within CPG companies preferred. Ideally, this individual would have experience in a CPG, consumer retail, e-commerce and/or manufacturing environments, with regional/local matters in international markets. Competition experience including handling of complex global transactions working in a matrixed environment. Demonstrated ability to partner with and influence business clients to deliver results while managing risk to the enterprise. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal executive level presence to work with global and regional business teams. Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle, prioritize, and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously; strong project management and execution skills. Creative, resilient, and flexible style and approach to solving legal problems, with high tolerance for ambiguity. Proven ability to effectively manage conflict and apply judgment in counseling and influencing others at all levels within the organization. Ability to demonstrate sound and independent judgment, prudence, and maturity.
