Paralegal – Legal Services Advocate Responsibilities: Under attorney supervision, assist with staffing Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinics at least once a week, including: preparing legal pleadings, supervising and mentoring volunteers, and administrative oversight (managing and stocking materials, supplies and forms); Assist with overseeing referrals from community partners, including following up with individuals, conducting screening and intake, scheduling and follow-up with clients; Assist with direct client services and case management, including: drafting legal pleadings, requesting and managing evidence, and conducting client and witness interviews; Provide reception coverage, including answering telephone, greeting visitors, providing information and making appropriate referrals; Prepare outreach materials, including conducting outreaches to community based organizations in the area and communicating with partners regarding collaborative services and referrals; Assist with data tracking and grant reporting; and Assist with office oversight and assistance to attorneys, including: operate and maintain office equipment and machines; maintain and organize case and other files; and perform other job related duties as requested by Managing Attorney.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Paralegal Certificate or an equivalent level of legal training; 2+ years' work experience as paralegal or legal assistant or similar work experience, including preparing legal forms and pleadings; Experience working with legal case management software, legal research tools such as Lexis and Westlaw, and the ability to use various computer programs, such as Word and Excel; Strong research, writing and communication skills; Ability to multitask and provide legal assistance in a busy, fast-paced practice; Bilingual in another language preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. Experience and ability to work with a diverse client population, including low-income clients and survivors of interpersonal violence; and Ability to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team.
