Production Counsel - Live Action
The candidate will provide business and legal services, including advising on copyright and trademark matters, and negotiating, drafting and overseeing a variety of production agreements including above-the-line (e.g., talent, producer, director, writer), below-the-line (e.g., supporting cast, crew, vendors), consultant, sponsorship, negative pickups, and production services agreements. Duties will focus on both Business and Legal Affairs issues for company's live-action and animation projects, with the end goal of project managing individual productions from development through delivery, with the support of the paralegal team. Responsible for all legal matters during the course of development and production, including copyright, trademark and clearance matters; rights acquisitions personnel/crew issues; guild issues; and advertising, promotion and publicity issues. Negotiate and draft agreements for above-the-line talent, crew, sponsors, consultants, and vendors. Review, analyze, and interpret contracts in an accurate and timely manner and provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues. Provide the Senior Vice President with weekly status updates. Must have 3+ years of entertainment legal experience at a major law firm or studio. Should be a member of the California State Bar or registered with the California Bar as in house counsel. A strong background in copyright law and intellectual property matters is required. Excellent negotiation, drafting, research, and analytical skills are needed.
