Paralegal Specialist - Recent Graduate Duties: The candidate will provide litigation support and assist attorneys in administrative and judicial proceedings, including conducting legal research in various databases. Will receive, investigate, examine and evaluate subpoenas, and other requests for Agency and personnel information from federal and state law enforcement agencies for possible disclosure in judicial proceedings. Receive, investigate, evaluate and assign Giglio and Henthorn requests for information relating to Agency employee testimony, including coordinating with the Department of Justice and Agency components. Provide information and making recommendations in justifying the Agency's legal position in regard to legal challenges to Agency actions. Obtain, organize, analyze and recommend agency action with respect to matters relating to the Federal Tort Claims Act, Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act, organizing, summarizing, and analyzing depositions and documents obtained during discovery phase of agency litigation.
Qualification and Experience
For GS-07: The candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level or equivalent performing duties such as analyzing facts and information to summarize it for use in penalty notices and decisions on petitions for relief; searching for citations of law, precedent court and administrative decisions, and regulatory material; and reviewing legal documents to extract selected data and information relating to specified items in libraries and computer data banks;
A Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society;
One full year of graduate level education from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university;
A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience.
For GS-09: The candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent performing duties such as documenting, reviewing, recording, and correlating information and technical material relative to case preparation; analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence; conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions; and reviewing and making decisions as to acceptability of evidence in fraud cases, significant seizure cases and in any case of unusual complexity; and composing legal briefs, summaries of analyses and decisions, and pretrial documents;
A Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education or a J.D. or LL.B. degree;
A combination of successfully completed graduate school education in excess of one year and required experience.
