ProfilePrivacy Counsel The candidate will advise product development teams and other cross-functional stakeholders on compliance obligations and risk-mitigation approaches for the collection, use, sharing, and maintenance of data. Serve as a subject matter expert, working with Nest’s product and commercial attorneys to incorporate privacy and data protection considerations into their counseling, while also working directly with Nest’s Product, Engineering, Marketing, Support, and other teams. Help define, implement, and document compliance plans, including launch reviews, incident management tools, and training for Nest employees. Develop and implement continuous improvement of company-wide legal policies and processes. Help prepare for implementation of the European General Data Protection Regulation and counsel cross-functional teams on GDPR requirements to drive best-in-class privacy and data protection practices. Work closely with Nest’s Privacy and Security Engineering teams to support new product development and sustaining development efforts, playing an important role enabling Nest’s commitment to be a conscientious steward of customer data and a good corporate citizen. Should have JD degree and 5+ years of legal practice experience at a law firm or as in-house counsel. Should have 3+ years of specialized privacy practice, with substantive experience in the key legal frameworks. State Bar membership is essential. Should preferably be familiar with both US and EU privacy norms, legal requirements, and enforcement authorities. IAPP or other applicable privacy certifications is a plus. Combination of in-house and law firm experience a plus.
