Summer Law Clerk The candidate will support Pro Bono Justice program, which aims to increase the amount of free legal help available to low-income Californians by involving private attorneys and law students in the work of legal services nonprofits. The Law Clerks will have the opportunity to engage in substantive legal work, interact with clients, and collaborate with other nonprofit organizations. Will support the work of under supervision of attorneys on the Pro Bono Justice team. In particular, the Law Clerks will: Help Plan and Execute Justice Bus Trips: The Justice Bus Project brings pro bono attorneys and law students to isolated and rural areas of California to provide free, limited-scope legal help to low-income communities. Will help with the planning and execution of Justice Bus trips and will attend the one- to two-day trips (during which they will interact with and assist clients). Trips will involve travel to a variety of regions, including—but not limited to—rural areas of Napa, Sonoma, Monterey, and San Joaquin counties. Should have current enrollment at an ABA accredited law school (1L, 2L, and 3L part-time); demonstrated commitment to social justice; superior oral and written advocacy skills; ability to work independently; belief that private attorneys and law students play a vital role in ensuring that low-income individuals get access to free legal help. Preferred: Understanding of the legal needs of low-income communities; project management experience; prior volunteer or internship experience in a nonprofit setting.Company info
