The candidate will be responsible for conducting legal research, reviewing the routine documents and drafting legal documents. Will research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, regulations, and legal codes. At the direction of the General Counsel, gathers facts and information relative to legal matters being handled by the office. Investigates facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly. Files pleadings with the Court. Maintains document file. Prepares direct delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action. Gathers formal statements from parties and witnesses for use in Court. Directs and coordinates activities of office employees. Assists during trial by taking notes, preparing exhibits and reading Court transcripts. Keeps legal files organized in paper and/or electronic format. Drafts legal documents such as contracts, pleadings and correspondence with other parties. Attends to small claims court matters for the Authority as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Paralegal studies or a Paralegal certificate and 3+ years of working experience as a Paralegal. Must have basic familiarity with civil litigation procedures, forms and pleadings. Knowledge of legal works, periodicals, reporting services and related publications is required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with the personnel, functions, and operations of the various departments, boards and agencies of the Government of the Virgin Islands is required. Knowledge of the operations, the personnel and procedures of the Courts of the Virgin Islands and of the Electronic Document Management and Filing System is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, legal software applications and other common office machines is required.
