Temporary Litigation Paralegal The candidate will report to the Office Administrator and perform paralegal responsibilities in connection with civil litigation. Will assist with all aspects of state and federal litigation, and arbitrations, including: aiding with the preparation, filing, and organization of pleadings, memoranda, discovery, and other legal documents; cite checking; collecting, maintaining, organizing, and reviewing evidence; managing multiple fast-moving dockets; aiding in depositions, hearings, trial preparation and trial. Manage and organize medium and large case document collection and productions including electronically stored information. Perform and aid with legal and factual research projects. Provide additional assistance as needed. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a four-year degree or completion of a legal assistant program. Must have 5+ years of experience as a civil litigation legal assistant/paralegal. Knowledge of civil procedures; court procedures and rules is required. Should have database advanced knowledge of: Relativity and other document review/hosting databases - Pacer, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, Word, Compulaw, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must have experience with complex commercial litigation. Flexibility for overtime is essential.

Note: This assignment is expected to last approx. 6 months. At that time the workload will be assessed to determine a possible extension of temporary assignment or conversion to a regular position.

Hopefully management will do something soon to keep the office politics to a minimum. The work environment here is good, but it could be even better with a few policy changes.

Pros : Associates here are given the freedom to work as they see fit. As long as you meet your billable hours quota you can do what you want, when you want. It's nice to not always have management breathing down my neck and micromanaging me.
Cons : Office politics can sometimes get in the way of productivity and are not always enjoyable. Backbiting and acrimony are more common than they should be.
