FHCU Attorney The candidate will be maintaining a caseload of complex and/or sensitive cases. Preparing and maintaining case files and documents in advance of court appearances. Interviewing witnesses and other relevant parties, reviewing relevant agency and third-party records and determining strength and admissibility of evidence. Assisting in overall supervision and monitoring work-flow of the Unit as needed, by substituting for other legal staff, preparing requested summaries and/or reports, and providing strategic guidance and/or supervision as requested, etc., to comply with deadlines and schedules. Drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and memoranda by following generally acceptable legal procedures, forms, and techniques in order to meet agency needs, goals, and objectives. Conducting and/or assisting with legal research and regularly reviewing relevant case law and regulations to support legal opinions.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have admission to the New York State Bar; One(1) year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. Assignment Level (AL) II: Must have one(1) year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. For AL III: Must have two(2) years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. One (1) year experience as an Agency Attorney Level 2; ability to supervise and lead Staff; familiarity with Children’s Services’ policies and procedures, including relevant child welfare laws and the Family Court Act preferred. Should have family law experience along with strong research and writing skills. Must exhibit the ability to track and meet multiple and varying deadlines.
