Legal Counsel Responsibilities: Serve as staff attorney for advising on a variety of legal matters. Assist Senior Director of Legal Services in providing full scope of Legal Services. Serve as lead attorney in several legal subject matters as directed by Senior Director of Legal Services (i.e. Contract Review, Real Estate, Taxation and more).Provide guidance on various other legal matters as they occur (Corporate, Data Security, Human Resources, Religious Liberty, Risk Management and more). Work with and manage certain outside counsel relationships to achieve necessary services within budget constraints. Oversee Contracts Administrator in review and approval of variety of contracts: hotel accommodations, information technology, service providers, retail marketing, property rental, independent contractors and more. Assist in establishing and monitoring an efficient contracts review process. Draft contracts and create templates according to ministry needs. Oversee legal issues related to real estate. Perform research and make recommendations related to ownership of real property and various leaseholds. Perform research and make recommendations related to interests in real estate located in foreign countries. Work closely with the Financial Services department to provide timely legal advice to leadership with regards to real estate decisions. Oversee legal issues related to nonprofit tax status. Conduct research and make recommendations related to property tax issues. Conduct research and make recommendations related to federal, state, and local tax issues. Work closely with the Financial Services department to provide timely legal advice to leadership with regards to tax-related decisions.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD degree and admission to a state bar; preferred Colorado license to practice law. Able to achieve admission to Colorado Bar within 6 months (either full admission or single-client admission). 2-5 years previous experience as legal practitioner. Experience working with non-profit organizations preferred. Diplomatic; good negotiation skills; willingness to hold others accountable to ministry policy and procedure while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external “customers.” Working knowledge and understanding of contract language. Good project management; ability to keep track of multiple tasks and customers. Process-oriented, but flexible to change or protocol of other departments serving. Consistent follow-through, tenacity. Willingness to learn; good research skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong administrative and organizational skills.
