Legal Assistant The candidate will be responsible for: Types general correspondence, memoranda and complex legal documents according to the requirements set by each practice group. Transcribes dictation tapes (letters, memos of law, motions and briefs). Proofreads documents and checks for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar. Prepares check requests for processing with appropriate backup and timely submission to accounting for payment. Types and coordinates expense reports. Enters and edits the attorney’s time into the timekeeping system within deadlines as required. Maintains attorney(s’) appointment calendar. Coordinates all client related travel. Maintains files in an efficient and effective manner. Prepares and updates attorney case lists. Receive, open, prioritize and distribute incoming mail. Prepare materials for distribution via U.S. mail, fax, courier, messenger, etc. Maintains confidentiality of client information in accordance with the firm policies. Interacts professionally with clients, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, all other staff and other representatives outside of the firm. Ability to handle pressure, interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines. Should have 5-10 years of experience in Workers' Compensation in New York. Must have the ability to type approximately 65 – 75 words per minute. Should have familiarity with electronic filing in Federal and State Court.
