Practice Innovation Attorney
Duties: Under the direction of the Chief Innovation Officer, will play an active role by partnering with the Firm and its clients to assess problems and opportunities and identify and implement solutions. Will work directly with Katten lawyers, business professionals, clients and and other key external partners with both projects and brainstorming efforts. Collaborate with lawyers, business professional teams and Firm leadership to assess business needs and available resources, establish priorities, define Firm objectives, and build a corresponding innovation roadmap. Maintain a current awareness of emerging technology tools to ensure that the Firm stays ahead of the curve. Research and evaluate tools and procedures that promote productivity and service quality. Partner with legal teams to enhance the delivery of legal services. Translate stated and inferred needs of lawyers and clients into specific process changes and technologies, where applicable, for efficiency and value enhancement. Assist in development of Firm’s data analytics program. Act as change agent by pushing approved projects forward. Research and evaluate tools and procedures that promote productivity and service quality. Present to practice groups and client teams regarding innovation team’s capabilities. Facilitate knowledge capture by designing, building, and implementing collaboration sites, knowledge repositories, deal databases, and client dashboards. Present and promote innovation internally and externally by speaking to attorneys, business professionals and outside groups about change management, process, technology and non-traditional service delivery techniques that enhance client value and amplify the firm’s value proposition. Participate in design thinking exercises. Conduct market, internal, and external research and convey results to team and Firm. Assist Firm and third-party software developers in the design, development and deployment of advanced technology systems. Directly manages and supervises employees and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing; training; scheduling, monitoring, and approving overtime; planning, assigning, and directing work; budgeting; appraising performance through employee evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation, bonus amounts, and termination.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Lawyer, licensed in at least one jurisdiction within the United States. Bachelor of Science preferably in Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science or another technical discipline is preferred. Displays intelligence, creativity, resilience, and persistence in solving varied, complex, and non-routine problems. Maintains command of the basics of knowledge management, process improvement, project management, and data usage techniques. Passionate about legal technology and evolving trends within the legal market. Possesses an appreciation for user interface and user experience design. Experience with the following is strongly preferred: intranets, extranets, document assembly, workflow, decision support, enterprise search, coding and/or machine learning. Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, Agile and Scrum project management, and statistics is a plus. Comfortable working both independently and in diverse teams. Displays excellent time management and project management skills to meet objectives and deadlines. Able to effectively distill complex information, synthesize, simplify, and present to Firm Management, attorneys, and staff. Able to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Excellent organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information. Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish information in report format, written correspondence, e-mail, or verbally. Exhibit a high degree of initiative and critical-thinking skills while exercising independent judgment in managing multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment. Excellent reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading, and formatting skills in order to interpret and analyze source data, prepare correspondence and documentation, and proofread material for grammatical, typographical and spelling errors. Able to perform mathematical calculations and apply mathematical concepts when computing, reconciling balances, verifying numerical data, and preparing various reports. Able to operate standard office equipment including computers, printers, telephones, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, facsimiles, etc.
