Litigation - General (consumer)
Associate Legal Officer Duties: Provide legal advice to team members and partners within and outside, evaluating issues and cases for involvement, with a focus on ethics and professional responsibility; Conduct legal research on how ethical and practice-of-law obligations apply in varied situations, accounting for multi-jurisdictional and transnational litigation; Develop and draft guidance and protocols in matters relating to ethics and professional responsibility; Support research on issues, organizations, and other matters, and compile research into concise, relevant material; Prepare and conduct info sessions with staff and partners on relevant legal issues; Collaborate closely with external partners, including communities, specialists, and outside counsel.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Graduate degree in law with active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction; New York State license preferred; Subject-matter expertise in ethics and professional responsibility; Familiarity conducting all-source research via websites, Lexis/Nexis, WestLaw, foreign source materials, academic studies, and interviews; Experience with case- and document-management systems, including the development of litigation-management software; Proven track record conducting research and writing and editing materials such as protocols, guidance, memoranda, powers of attorney, NDAs, and legal representation agreements; Proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to effectively manage projects and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, with a high attention to detail; Commitment to continuous learning and growth in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism and social justice; Commitment to listening and working with humility; ways of working that are respectful to all people; and that support space and voice for all diverse perspectives in our workplace. Desirable: Experience with human rights law and/or international law, and practical experience of working with non-governmental organizations highly desirable; Reading and writing proficiency in either French or Spanish is desirable.
