IP Paralegal
Responsibilities: Provide legal and administrative assistance to in-house attorneys, outside counsel, and management. Assist in prosecution of patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Manage all aspects of internal patent database, including the creation of all new patent records based on invention disclosures received, creation of detailed reports for various internal business purposes, and maintenance of all inventor profiles. Review all incoming patent and trademark correspondence from US and foreign patent offices and outside counsel; track deadlines; and coordinate with in-house attorneys to provide instructions to outside counsel. Manage patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios through coordination with marketing, product development, and legal team leadership. Manage a foreign patent prosecution docket ensuring all deadlines are met in an efficient, timely manner. Comprehensive knowledge of patent application, filings, US and PCT. Maintain and update files, including file openings, file applications, responses, etc. with USPTO. Responsible for preparing and maintain IDS. Communicate appropriate information to Docketing daily and respond as soon as possible to all Docketing inquiries. Work closely with attorneys, technology specialists, and staff to prepare and file PCT, foreign, and US national phase patent applications and formal papers. Prepare correspondence/documents to send to clients, foreign associates, the US Receiving Office, and international patent offices. Work directly with clients to obtain executed assignments, declarations, powers of attorney and other documents. Prepare foreign patent cost estimates, formal papers, and other miscellaneous documents. Prepare client reporting letters, foreign attorney instruction letters. Learn, adhere to, and uphold firm standards and procedures. Communicate directly with clients, foreign attorneys, USPTO and International Bureau of WIPO under the direction of a patent attorney or agent. Review and forward annuity information to the annuity paralegal and foreign attorney invoices to Finance.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Should have Bachelor’s degree. Should have 3-5 years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm. Should have solid experience and working knowledge of PCT and foreign patent rules, filing requirements, and forms. Should have experience working in PAIR and e-filing with the USPTO Receiving Office. Experience with Computer Packages Patent Management System preferred. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
