LITIGATION FIRM IN WASHINGTON, DC
ASSOCIATE POSITION: Desired candidates will possess a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a litigation environment. The associate will work under the general supervision of the principals of the firm and will assist in all phases of trial and appellate work from the initial preparation of cases through trial and appeal.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Candidates must be an active/current member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar. Additional bar memberships are preferred (e.g., Maryland or Virginia). Desired candidates must also demonstrate excellent writing and research skills as reflected in journal experience, or pleadings filed in a judicial or administrative forum; by prior employment demonstrate experience in managing several case files and analyzing issues; and the ability to plan and develop solutions to resolving client issues.
MINIMUM REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of and familiarity with general legal principles in contracts, constitutional law real property, domestic relations, torts and administrative law. The successful candidate will be familiar with the District of Columbia and federal rules of civil procedure and methods and requirements of legal discovery and legal research. Candidates must communicate clearly orally and in writing; be able to organize workload, prioritize tasks; and, work under strict deadlines and under the pressures of the litigation environment. Should have experience with Microsoft; Lexis/Nexis; Westlaw; and standard electronic discovery platforms (e.g., Concordance or Relativity).
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Starting salary range comparable to local general services schedule; short- & long-term disability; employer contribution for medical coverage; eligibility for retirement & profit-sharing after twelve months of employment.
