ProfileLegal Intern - Family Law The candidate will provide legal representation in NYC Family and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts, mental health services, advocacy, case management, and on-going domestic violence education and outreach activities throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Will work within a legal-psychosocial framework with survivors of domestic violence to provide assistance to Family Law attorneys in matters concerning orders of protection, custody, visitation and child/spousal support. Assist UJC DVP attorneys with direct representation and advocacy to victims of domestic violence seeking legal relief in family court, matrimonial and/or immigration proceedings. Conduct client intakes, perform legal research/writing, assist attorneys in all aspects of their cases. Accompany attorneys in conducting Outreach and Community Education events. Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation thereof of all contact and services. Collect and maintain data collection required for monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics. Currently attending Law School is needed. Fluent in Spanish or another language is preferred. Interest and/or experience in working with survivors of domestic violence and trauma is needed. Proficiency working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles is needed. Strong organizational and administrative skill is essential.
