Fall 2018 Internship Intern will work closely with deputy city attorneys who are designated mentors on a meaningful (yet manageable) caseload. Will take part in client meetings with department staff and elected officials; trials, court hearings, and depositions; public meetings and closed sessions with city commissions and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; and even press conferences related to the office’s work. assist Deputy City Attorneys in drafting statutes and regulations, reviewing contracts, representing the City in court and before administrative agencies and advising the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and various agencies and departments of the City. Work varies depending on the team on which a student interns. Will RETIREMENT – Serves as general counsel to the Retirement Board, the board of the Retiree Health Care Trust Fund and the San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System, also known as SFERS. The team provides advice on a range of matters, including pension benefits and the retirement system’s investment portfolio. The team also represents the retirement system in administrative hearings and in appeals before the Superior Court. Advises all city departments on conflict of interest and ethics laws, and advises City Attorney staff on the rules of professional responsibility. Drafts titles and summaries for initiative measures, prepares draft ballot digests and advises the Ballot Simplification Committee. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school are eligible to participate in the City Attorney’s intern program. Deadline: May 25th, 2018 Duration: 10 weeks ending on November 2nd, 2018
