Global Employment Counsel The candidate will be responsible to provide legal support for all employment, data privacy, and immigration matters for publicly held international infrastructure company with more than 6,000 employees. Advise leadership on legal issues and business strategies to manage company risk. Draft, revise and review contracts, including but not limited to independent contractor agreements, restrictive covenants, employment agreements, separation agreements, consulting agreements, equity agreements and annual incentive plan agreements. Draft, review and revise employment-related policies. Conduct/Coordinate internal audits of human resources, payroll, and employment practices to ensure compliance with employment and data privacy laws. Defend and represent the company in administrative agency matters. Oversee compliance with federal and state employment laws applicable to government contractors, including but not limited to prevailing wages, affirmative action plans, and registration of apprentices. Manage and advise on internal investigations. Counsel businesses on labor relations matters, including union avoidance for non-union entities, and maintenance of double-breasted status for various subsidiaries. Provide daily counsel to internal clients on human resources issues, including but not limited to employee terminations, wage and hour issues, labor union matters, non-competition agreements, leaves of absence, and disability accommodations. Train (and develop training materials) human resources personnel on major employment laws and best practices for minimizing risk. Train/Advise management on everyday employment matters, including wage and hour, disability accommodations, leaves of absence, and harassment. Manage outside litigation counsel in the defense of lawsuits, including class actions and single-plaintiff lawsuits. Provide counsel on global mobility, expatriate and international assignments and global immigration matters.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctorate (JD) and admission to the Missouri bar (or willingness to become admitted to practice in Missouri) required with 7+ years of legal experience in employment and traditional labor law. Should have experience with clients who operate in multiple states, including California, international employment law, including Canada, immigration, affirmative action compliance and construction industry experience considered a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret very complex documents and to respond effectively to highly sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to management. Understanding of managerial financial information and the ability to work with mathematical concepts; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of legal concepts.
