Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join their team in Buffalo, NY. This role offers a hybrid remote opportunity and involves working closely with senior attorneys on a broad range of estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters for high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and representation in estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
  • Draft, review, and finalize various estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and protect their assets.
  • Assist in the administration of estates and trusts, including filing legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes.
  • Conduct legal research to stay informed of developments in estate planning, tax, and probate law.
  • Collaborate with clients' financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to create comprehensive estate plans.
  • Regular travel to the firm's Bantam office may be required for Connecticut-based attorneys.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings related to probate and trust administration as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through effective communication and understanding of their unique needs.

Requirements:

  • 4-6+ years of experience as a Trusts and Estates attorney.
  • Admission to the New York Bar (or eligibility for waiver).
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in the bar.
  • Proficiency in drafting estate planning documents, including all types of trusts.
  • Experience with complex estate and trust administration, as well as estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in the New York Bar (or eligibility for waiver).
