Senior Counsel II - Intellectual Property The candidate will handle matters that have a moderate degree of risk to the company. Will manage one or more attorneys or paralegals. Makes preliminary recommendations on strategies for complex legal and business matters to more senior attorneys. Recommendations are frequently presented to various senior leaders including those outside of their area of responsibility. Develops/drafts patent applications for review by senior management. Prepares and prosecutes US and foreign patent with minimal supervision. Prepares documents for submissions to the Patent Office and responds to patent holder communications with ongoing review and input from IP managers. Formulates and evaluates legal/patent searches under minimal supervision. Assists in evaluation of third party IP rights and prepares legal opinions or summary briefs for more senior members of the IP Legal team.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree and Admission before a State Bar or fully qualified legal credentials in geography of operations. Should be fully admitted to practice applicable laws in the country or jurisdictions of responsibility. Must have strong project management, communication and interpersonal skills. Must have substantial knowledge of specific areas of law and business and ability to independently and effectively apply this knowledge in his/her areas of responsibility to counsel members of the senior legal team or senior managers in other departments. Must have 8+ years of law firm or biotech/pharma industry or law firm experience which includes 3+ years in Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical patent prosecution experience. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related sciences is preferred. Registered before the USPTO is essential. Must have strong project management, communication and interpersonal skills. Must have substantial knowledge of specific areas of law and business and ability to independently and effectively apply this knowledge in his/her areas of responsibility to counsel members of the senior legal team or senior managers in other departments.
