Senior Legal Assistant Duties: Drafting correspondence, memoranda, pleadings, motions, discovery responses and disclosure statements, witness and exhibit lists, jury instructions and other documents as appropriate; gather documents; interview witnesses and organize litigation files. Aid attorneys in preparing assigned cases for trial and other disposition.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Paralegal experience in civil litigation and experience assisting an attorney at trial. Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles and procedures. Knowledge of the methods and techniques of legal research and use of statutes, codes, and other legal resources. Knowledge of the methods, techniques and principles for writing briefs, reports and other legal documents in appropriate format. Knowledge of the functions and jurisdictions of local, State and Federal courts and related criminal justice agencies. Knowledge of discovery procedures, time constraints and the ability to respond to discovery requests. Knowledge of good file management and effective trial preparation. Skill in gathering and organizing information for discovery and disclosure. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in dealing with confidential matters. Skill in organizing litigation files. Skill in extracting and utilizing information from statutes, court decisions, legal documents and related records. Skill in interviewing and eliciting information in a legal investigation. Skill in legal research, manual and computer-based, such as Westlaw. Skill in interpersonal relations. Ability to obtain and organize documents. Ability to review a file and understand the legal theories involved. Ability to assist attorney(s) in trial preparation and at trials and hearings. Ability to proficiently use a personal computer, e-mail, the internet, electronic case filing systems as well as electronic case management and document management software. Ability to get along and work well with others. Ability to travel within Arizona, including overnight stays.
