VP Associate General Counsel The candidate will serve as in-house counsel on certain aspects of mortgage operations. Should preferably have exceptional attention to detail, be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and will have excellent negotiation and legal research and drafting skills. Report to the Deputy General Counsel. Supervise Counsel, Paralegals and certain other staff positions. Research and analyze both federal and state law in order to provide necessary legal guidance. Counsel business units on the legal, business, and operational issues and risks associated with mortgage and corporate operations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and USVI. Support business units with routine guidance in the development of policies and procedures, customer-facing documents, and training materials. Manage, or provide substantive guidance related to, litigation and/or contested matters relating to operational practice area. Balance business-driven timelines with necessary attention to risk mitigation. Provide business units with prompt and well-reasoned legal support that positions the business in a competitive and legally sound environment. Law Degree from an ABA accredited US law school is essential. Should have admission to the Texas State Bar or the ability to waive into the Texas Bar. Must have 5+ years of legal experience within a large law firm or in-house legal department. Proficiency with MS Word and Adobe Acrobat, including track changes, OCR, and document comparison functions is essential. In-house legal experience is preferred. Experience representing state licensed non-depository mortgage lenders desired. Understanding of the mortgage lifecycle is beneficial. Excel, PowerPoint and legal database skills desired.
