Docketing Specialist Duties: Responsible for docket support requirements for attorneys practicing in multiple courts and jurisdictions. Will review legal documents in order to calculate, record and disseminate timely response dates pursuant to court rules and civil procedure. Will assist attorneys with keeping current with pertinent procedural rules and laws, and provide timely reports of response dates on a regular basis. Index and enter all pleadings into Firm’s automated docket system, ProLaw, including calendaring due dates submitted by attorneys. Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly docket reports to those working on calendared matters. Prepare and distribute specialized docket reports on request. File, maintain and track docket receipt and report files relevant to all case information entered into the automated docket system. Maintain and update all additions and changes in the automated docket system, including case name, venue or court jurisdiction, case number, and/or responsible attorneys. Respond to written or verbal requests from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries regarding calendared events, pleadings, and court procedures and modifications to compliance dates on the docket and calendar. Generate trial timelines, as requested. Research, analyze and process deadline requests by applying procedural rules from jurisdictions across the U.S. Assist the Docket Manager in researching and keeping up todate on court procedural rules in the various jurisdictions in which the Firm practices.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Paralegal degree/certificate or 1+ year of experience as a litigation paralegal or docketing specialist. Prior experience as a general litigation calendar or docket clerk or as a paralegal, legal assistant or legal support role with docket responsibilities for a particular case preferred. Knowledge of the litigation process and deadline calendaring. The ability to locate and understand court rules is essential to successful performance in the position. Knowledge of ProLaw (or similar docketing software), Pacer, Courtlink, Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, and MS Office Suite. Possess and maintain knowledge of court rules and procedures, and demonstrated ability to apply the rules to accurately calculate deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels. Possess a customer focus and have a track record of providing the highest level of customer service. Able to organize and prioritize issues and handle competing priorities. Ability to take initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done. Able to solve problems quickly, effectively, and diplomatically. Flexibility and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities.

The firm should work on having events in which more staff would be open to participating. Retreats, potlucks, or meet and greets would seem like a great way to be able to meet more of the staff which has not met other staff and employees in the office.

Pros : A law firm in which staff and employees work alongside together and have created a pleasant environment. The firm offers benefits. The staff is respectful.
Cons : Part of the firm is not on the same page. Some of the employees do not open themselves to working in the same pleasant environment. There needs to be more staff hired.
