Profile

Paralegal – Consumer Financial Services
Duties: Perform paralegal duties and responsibilities as directed by the group leader and other attorneys in the assigned substantive practice group. Research, analyze, and summarize law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, legal codes, and law-related information relevant to the practice area. Research, investigate, analyze, and summarize facts and factual issues relevant to the practice area. Receive and follow complex instructions. Draft and prepare legal documents appropriate to the practice area. Docket and take appropriate action to monitor and meet deadlines. Establish priorities and work concurrently on a variety of projects. Perform all assignments in strict compliance with ethical guidelines governing the practice of law. Demonstrate good teamwork skills within and among practice groups, offices, and firms to facilitate efficient delivery of legal services. Consistently exhibit a high degree of professionalism. Use initiative and discretion in accomplishing routine assignments with minimum supervision. Direct and coordinate activities of law office support personnel as assigned. Participate in the training and professional development of other paralegals in routine practice elements. Conduct PACER research and run PACER reports. Works with litigation databases, including conducting searches, loading transcripts, and coding documents. Assist in deposition preparation, including preparation of deposition notebooks. Organize and monitor the maintenance of large matter files, i.e. correct and timely filing of correspondence, pleadings, transcripts, and other case materials. Number and stamp documents for document productions, trial exhibits, and trial notebooks. Copy and code documents in large document production performed inside or outside the office. Organize, chronologize, categorize and index documents, or other legal documents. Assist with the trial organization. Retrieve public records and/or obtain public records from online sources or directly from government institutions. Summarize simple depositions or other legal documents.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. 3+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal. Able to work independently and take initiative in meeting and exceeding the expectations of the position. Demonstrate strong organizational and writing skills. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of firm personnel and outside clients and vendors. Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop skills. Demonstrate a “can do” attitude and initiative to assist on a variety of projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with database files management systems such as iManage and a records management system. Excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills. Demonstrate the ability to work within a team environment. Able to use sound judgment and good discretion.

The law office should reconsider offering wage increases in smaller increments in a shorter period of time to the hard working staff and employees. There should be a continuation of appreciation for the hard working employees at the law firm.

Pros : The law firm does a great job of offering several incentives to employees. The firm offers bonuses to its employees. The partners of the law firm recognize the hard work perform by the employees in their department.
Cons : The law firm does not offer a wage increase in a short period of time. The amount of work hours requires focus. The healthcare plan offered is at a high cost.
