Summer 2022 Sustainable FERC Intern The candidate will take ownership of a major challenge or barrier facing the integration of clean energy into wholesale power markets regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Will perform the necessary research, meet with key stakeholders, and take other action necessary to understand and synthesize the issue and develop solutions to it. The specific topic or topics will depend in part on the intern’s experience and interest. Among current challenges are: integration of rooftop solar and other distributed energy into power markets; undercounting of the capacity value of clean energy resources; lack of sufficient transmission to connect large amounts of wind and solar power to the grid; and public participation in and governance of wholesale markets. Author or co-author one or more reports recommending reforms to FERC-jurisdictional energy markets or gas infrastructure approval processes. Author one or more blogs on a relevant subject. Participate in external stakeholder and coalition meetings. Provide one or more briefings to Sustainable FERC Project and energy teams. Travel to and attend one or more summer energy conferences. Associated research and writing necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Currently in law, business, engineering, or public policy graduate school. Basic familiarity with or strong interest in wholesale energy market issues. Excellent writing skills. Comfort speaking in varied settings, ranging from team meetings to conferences. Strong interpersonal skills. Duration: 10 weeks Period: starting on or after May 1, 2022, concluding on or before August 31, 2022
