Manager of Claims Administration
Duties: Creates, updates and maintains policies and procedures for the Claim Management Program. Supervises the investigation of claims by the regional risk managers, claims manager, litigation paralegal, independent investigators, accountants and consultants. Makes recommendations for additional investigation. Establishes indemnity and expense reserves on each claim. Ensures reserves are current with updated claim investigations. Supervises accumulation of cost data for budgetary and historical purposes; prepares budgets for direct operations and finance. Makes recommendations regarding disposition of cases to the System Vice President of Risk Management and the EVP, General Counsel. Prepares litigation and closed claim summaries. Coordinates activities of defense counsel to assure effective and expedient handling of lawsuits in as cost effective a manner as possible. Directs and coordinates release and information in response to subpoenas, court orders, attorney requests, state and federal agencies, and other inquiries from outside. Creates alternative dispute opportunities to resolve claims or crossclaims between commercial insurers, co-defendants, contractors and all parties either named or not named in litigation or anticipated litigation Designs and implements risk management studies and surveys; conducts surveys and special projects to assist in long-term planning and changes to facility policies and systems that reduce risk and losses. Ensures compliance with all state and federal statutes relating to the reporting of settlements or payments of claims. Prepares and/or directs statistical trending of losses and analyzes patterns. Manages the performance of the staff of the Claims Program Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, medical or legal field required. JD Degree preferred. 5+ years medical, legal or casualty insurance administration experience required. 2+ years' leadership experience required. Significant experience in the resolution of complex medical malpractice cases involving potential exposure in the range of $10M-$15M. Familiarity with insurance coverage for employment liability, directors and officers, first party property, construction contracts, umbrella health care liability. Ability to promote and or market Clam Management Program to prospective medical groups. ARM or other certification in field desirable. Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment with minimum direction. Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills. Ability to objectively collect and analyze data. Superior verbal and written communication skills.
