Associate Attorney The candidate will focus on child welfare issues related to child protective services;the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, fatality reports; and adoption. Will be responsible for providing legal support to agency administrators regarding record retention rules and investigations, program improvement, compliance and monitoring under the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Act. Assist in defending legal cases which may have a major impact on the agency’s mission and programs or for which there may be little legal precedent; Respond to subpoenas and court orders; Review and/or draft legislation, regulations, policy documents , procurement documents and/or program manuals; Develop and analyze legal opinions, briefs and other legal materials; prepare memoranda of law; confer with agency administrators and outside parties to mediate, negotiate or settle legal issues related to the agency’s mission and programs; assist in agency preparation and response to audits; Prepare presentations for agency administrators or outside parties regarding agency priorities, new legal requirements, and federal mandates. Must have One year of permanent competitive service in this title or in a title eligible transfer under Section 70.1 or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. AND Admission to the New York State Bar and current registration to practice law in New York State is required for continued employment. Deadline: 17 April 2018.
