Bilingual Parlegal Advocate
Responsibilities: Provides critical paralegal services to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Conduct legal consultations for potential clients seeking legal assistance on orders of protection, custody, visitation, and child support under the supervision of CLS attorneys. Handle routine communications and transactions with clients. Interpret for non-English-speaking clients during attorney meetings, phone calls, and court appearances. Translate legal documents and letters for attorneys/clients. Accompany clients to family court, assist them with filing family court petitions, and provide other supportive services to victims involved in the legal system. Advocate on behalf of clients in matters involving the criminal justice system, public benefits, housing, and other systems. Maintain statistics and complete monthly and quarterly grant reports for funders. Maintain client records, both hard copy and in database, close case files, send files to storage. Perform paralegal and administrative tasks for attorneys in the Legal Center. Assist the Managing Director – CLS with administrative support and special projects, including research, assistance developing presentations, advocacy initiatives, and other projects. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Fluency (oral and written) in English and another language commonly spoken by members of client communities required. Non-profit domestic violence and/or social service work experience preferred. Ability to work independently, assess priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with word processing, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook and database programs. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and to interact with management and program staff.
