Director of Legal - HCI
The candidate manages the legal department supporting all areas of Company Creates, implements, administers and enforces all policies, procedures and activities required for the organization to operate in accordance with Federal, State, and Tribal laws and regulations. Provide legal representation to the Organization, support the work of the Organization and manage the full range of legal strategies and responsibilities for legal entities. Set the objectives and strategies for the legal team in alignment with larger organizational goals. Lead complex legal projects that span legal, business, and functional boundaries (e.g., cross geographies, subject matter areas, jurisdictions, organizations and business models), Provide counsel to staff in all departments on a variety of complex issues. Identify, research, and analyze legal issues that affect the Organization and its activities at the local, state, federal and international levels associated with the Organization’s activities, ongoing operations, and strategic initiatives. Participate in the development and implementation of staff-friendly plans, systems and procedures. Regularly works with management to ensure contract compliance for company and its subsidiaries. Ensures statutory compliance of all federal rules and regulations. Regularly tracks laws and regulations which affect the organization's policies and ensures company policies and procedures comply with all relevant rules and regulations. Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement. Understands the unique legal structure that Company operates within and ensures compliance within that legal structure. Assists executive management with developing political strategy including, but not limited to, drafting legal letters for testimony meeting with government representatives, drafting amendments, etc. Oversees outside counsel for government contracting entities. Point of contact for outside counsel (non-government contracting). Coordinates with the executive management team on special projects as assigned. Other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. Should have 10+ years of legal experience including significant professional experience as a transactional attorney. Experience advising senior management of complex multi-state and international organizations. Demonstrable legal analytical skills, general business acumen and expertise in several of the core areas of work listed below: Compliance and rules applicable to tribal organizations, Contract review and management in the US and in foreign jurisdictions, Employment law, Corporate governance, Enterprise wide risk mitigation. Prior success building relationships and communicating with diverse groups of people. Strong project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong teamwork and client service skills; experience exercising influence and managing change while having an open and inclusive tone; solution-oriented. Understanding of the U. S. legal system including, but not limited to, state and federal tax matters, regulatory issues, and intellectual property matters. Experience with FDA, ATF and/or TTB regulations. Should have Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited university and an active Bar membership.
