Vice President, Deputy General Counsel The candidate will be responsible for providing legal services to all areas of the company and its subsidiaries. Will be an exceptional healthcare generalist who will ensure the representation and protection of the company and its subsidiaries and the provision of timely, quality services to internal and external customers. Responsible for the management and evaluation of a legal team composed of attorneys and paraprofessionals that provide legal counsel and services related to the products and activities of the company and its subsidiaries. Be in contact with senior management, officers of the company, regulatory agencies, professional associations, outside company counsel and counsel for providers and policyholders, and consultants. Manages and supervises attorneys and paraprofessional staff by assigning tasks, balancing work flows, training, guiding, and motivating employees so they can perform to their maximum productivity levels, and giving timely feedback and assistance to provide the company with a solid legal department that is able to effectively and responsively address legal issues and concerns. Performs high level legal research and analysis in numerous areas of law and policy, often involving novel and complex issues to provide employees with a thorough legal analysis with regard to pending health care law issues. Advises senior management of the legal ramifications of proposed corporate strategies, resolution of corporate legal issues, and legislative and regulatory developments to position the companies as the preeminent health care company. Provides legal services to execute corporate strategy. Drafts, edits, and analyzes a wide variety of documents, such as legal memoranda, state and federal legislation and administrative agency regulations and actively participates in the state and federal regulatory processes to maximize the companyâ€™s strategic position in the marketplace. Assist the General Counsel as requested. Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels. Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. degree and eligibility for admission to practice law in the State of Louisiana. 15 yearsâ€™ experience in the practice of law is required. 10+ years of progressive leadership experience which can run concurrently with the technical experience required. Experience in either the health insurance or healthcare provider industry, including experience with applicable major laws and regulations, is required. Experience in complex major business/healthcare transactions is desired. Experience in corporate governance, audit, and corporate compliance is desired.
