Senior Claims Examiner The candidate wil manage Casualty claims in which company is the primary and/or excess carrier. This requires review and assessment of coverage, liability and damages in jurisdictions throughout the United States, complying with each jurisdiction's applicable statutes, rules and case law. Identify and assess coverage issues, draft coverage position letters and when necessary, retain coverage counsel. Develop and implement strategy relative to coverage issues which correlate with the overall strategy of matters entrusted to the handler's care. Analyze coverage, liability and damages for purposes of assessing and recommending reserves. Prepare and present written and oral reports to senior management setting forth all issues influencing evaluation and recommending reserves. Develop and implement a strategy to resolve matters of liability and damages of a particular case in accordance with contractual obligations. Timely and accurate resolution; ensuring mitigation of indemnity and expense exposure while communicating developments and outcomes as necessary to all key internal and external clients. Revising case reserves based on developments in the course of adjusting the claim. Be alert to insurance fraud and implement special procedures if possible fraud is detected. Settle claims within assigned levels of authority. Maintain contact with the insured, underwriter, primary adjuster, reinsurers and counsel. Retain defense counsel when necessary and direct counsel in accordance with litigation guidelines ensuring an effective resolution strategy. Maintain effective vendor and litigation management. Maintain an effective diary. Attend mediations, trials, and other proceedings relevant to the resolution of the matter; travel requirement 10%. Negotiate resolution of claims. Select and utilize structure brokers. Review and pay bills, invoices and process indemnity payments. A College degree, J.D. Preferred. Should have 7-10 years of related experience. Primary and/or Excess Casualty Claims experience is needed. Energy Casualty, Construction and/or Rail experience is a plus. Must be proper Adjuster Licenses in all applicable States. Must have Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Should have strong evaluation and negotiation skills. Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
