Benefits Counsel The candidate will manage and mitigate Harris’ risks as they relate to benefit law and regulations. Provide advice and counseling on a wide range of compensation, benefits and tax matters, including: Compliance with existing and new employee benefit and compensation plan laws and regulations; The design, implementation, administration, compliance, governance and tax treatment of global compensation and benefit plans, including ERISA and non-ERISA health and welfare plans, qualified and non-qualified pension and 401(k) retirement plans, paid time off plans, executive compensation plans, deferred compensation plans, severance plans, fringe benefit plans and equity plans; Drafting employee benefit plans (including health and welfare plans), plan amendments and summary plan descriptions and employee communications; Plan administration, including advice regarding eligibility, plan operational issues, plan interpretation and beneficiary entitlements; Advice on plan governance matters, including advice on ERISA and fiduciary responsibilities related to company plans. Conduct legal and factual research related to internal client requests and initiatives. Work with and supervise outside counsel on benefits related matters. Negotiating agreements with third party service providers. Work with HR management and Legal colleagues to ensure compliance with benefit-related laws and proper reporting to external agencies (i.e., example 8K, 10K, S-1 etc., as required).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have JD degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Florida Bar or eligible to register as Authorized House Counsel in Florida. Should have 5+ years’ experience exclusively dedicated to the practice of benefits law. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, leadership and project management skills is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including for executive management audience is needed.
