Self-help Internship Intern under supervision of trained paralegals and attorneys, will provide assistance to self-represented litigants in Resource Centers, in designated areas of law, including to: Family Law, Guardianships, Landlord Tenant, & Small Claims. Intern positions are unpaid, but offer vital professional experience for current students of Chaffey College interested in enhancing their knowledge of legal matters. Triage litigants in Self-Help Center by briefly interviewing litigants and answering routine questions from litigants. Prepare legal documents; assist self-represented litigants with document preparation. Assist litigants with documents to request a hearing, such as request for orders, at issue memorandum, request to set, plaintiff's claim and order. Courtroom observation; report findings to self-help center. Retrieve files and assemble documents for use by court staff. Type and proofread a variety of routine forms, memoranda, letters and other documents. Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases of records and other information. Perform related duties as requested for the purpose of training and development. Undergraduate students must be enrolled in Chaffey College Pre-Law and/or Paralegal Programs.
