Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of general legal support tasks. Review of contested files for determination of next course of action and proceeding as appropriate. Drafting and preparation of legal documents, such as Complaints, Applications for Default Judgment, Motions for Summary Judgment and Motions to Compel Discovery and discovery responses. Assisting attorneys in litigation, including counterclaims, court documents, scheduling of court hearings and hearing preparation. Handles client inquiries and updates pertaining to individual files. Review and interpret disclosure agreements, credit applications, equipment leases, engagement letters, service agreements, etc. Maintains files, hearing notices, agendas, calendaring, etc. for each departmental attorney. Follow up with courts and other legal departments regarding filed documents and hearings. Other duties as required by the attorneys and department.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should preferably have College Degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies or related field. 3+ years’ experience in attorney support and/or the collection legal field and 2+ years of formal legal training or equivalent experience preferred. Must have experience in drafting pleadings, adversary attorney correspondence, and other related documents. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook. Organizational, verbal and written communication skills a must. Typing and keyboarding experience with 70+ WPM required. Strong attention to detail, the ability work independently, multi-task is essential. Collection Law knowledge is helpful. Ability to work in high pressure situations regarding opposing counsel and the firm’s attorneys. Attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) and the ability to multi-task.
